What makes microneedling so effective?

Microneedling is considered a gold-standard treatment for supporting overall skin rejuvenation by encouraging the skin to restore and maintain optimal function and resilience.

Following a course of microneedling, skin can appear smoother, firmer, brighter, and more refined. This is because the treatment works by stimulating the skin’s natural regenerative processes and supporting the function of three key skin cells: keratinocytes, melanocytes, and fibroblasts.

By creating controlled micro-channels within the skin, microneedling helps encourage collagen production, supports healthy skin renewal, and promotes a more balanced and even complexion — all whilst preserving the integrity of the epidermis, your skin’s essential protective barrier.

What conditions can benefit from microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is often associated with treating lines and wrinkles, but its benefits extend far beyond general anti-ageing concerns.

Because microneedling helps support healthy skin function, encourages collagen production, and improves communication between skin cells, it can be an effective treatment option for a wide range of skin concerns.

Conditions that may benefit from microneedling include:

  • Acne scarring

  • Fine lines and wrinkles

  • Loss of firmness and skin laxity

  • UV and environmental skin damage

  • Hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone

  • Thinned or fragile skin

  • Stretch marks

  • Surgical or traumatic scarring

  • Reduced skin resilience and elasticity

  • Vascular rosacea

Your Skin Revolution therapist will assess your skin carefully and recommend the most appropriate microneedling approach based on your skin condition, concerns, and overall treatment goals.

How does microneedling achieve these results?

Microneedling works through two key mechanisms to support healthier, stronger, and more resilient skin.

Firstly, the controlled micro-channels created during treatment allow active ingredients to penetrate more effectively into the deeper layers of the skin, where they can deliver maximum benefit. This enhances the absorption and effectiveness of professional skincare formulations used during and after treatment.

Secondly, microneedling stimulates the skin’s natural regenerative response. The controlled stimulation encourages the release of growth factors and supports the production of new collagen and elastin, helping to improve skin structure, firmness, and overall skin quality over time. Collagen remodelling can continue for many months following a treatment course.

Many skin functions begin to improve from the very first session, including:

  • Enhanced cell-to-cell communication

  • Improved overall cellular function

  • Strengthening of the dermal-epidermal junction

  • Softening and remodelling of scar tissue

  • Release of epidermal growth factors (EGF)

  • Increased natural collagen and elastin production

  • Support for healthy microcirculation and capillary strength through angiogenesis

Unlike some resurfacing treatments, microneedling does not rely on thermal heat. This means the skin barrier remains largely intact, making the treatment suitable for a wide range of skin types and concerns, with minimal downtime when performed professionally and correctly.

How many sessions are needed?

The number of microneedling sessions recommended will vary depending on your skin condition, concerns, and treatment goals. Your Skin Revolution therapist will create a personalised treatment plan tailored specifically to your skin.

Typically, a course of 3–6 treatments is recommended, spaced approximately 2–6 weeks apart depending on the area being treated and the skin’s response.

For optimal results, it is important to complete the full recommended course, as the benefits of microneedling are cumulative. Each session builds upon the previous one, helping to progressively improve skin strength, texture, firmness, and overall skin quality over time.

What will I feel and how will I look afterwards?

Please don’t be alarmed by some of the dramatic images you may see online, professionally delivered microneedling is a controlled, advanced treatment designed to support skin health safely and effectively.

Depending on the type and depth of microneedling performed, a topical numbing cream may be applied before treatment to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

Immediately afterwards, your skin may appear slightly red or flushed, similar to mild to moderate sun exposure. You may also experience some warmth, tightness, or dryness within the skin. To help calm and support the skin post-treatment, we include a soothing LED treatment as part of your appointment.

For most clients, any redness and sensitivity settles within 24–48 hours, although this can vary depending on the intensity of the treatment and individual skin response.

Your therapist will provide personalised aftercare advice and, where appropriate, recommended home care products to support recovery and optimise your results.

“Before booking any course of treatment, we recommend you book a consultation.”

Why have a consultation with us?

Because without knowing what is going on with your skin how can you treat it correctly?

During your consultation we will ask you some questions and chat about your health, lifestyle, nutrition, and stress levels as well as how you feel about your skin.  These external factors are important as they have a huge impact on the way your skin behaves.  We can treat skin symptoms but in order to give you properly happy skin we must identify the causes of any problems.

Knowledge is power and we also think it is very important for you to understand how your skin functions. So, as well as offering you solutions in the form of a plan containing treatment and targeted homecare recommendations we will also share with you some skin education.

We offer two types of consultation that are conducted face to face in clinic as well as an online service via zoom or facetime for those of you who cannot come in to see us in person.

We recommend clients new to the clinic ideally start with a full Skin Consultation and Bespoke Treatment Plan Creation, this one includes a treatment too, a great way to get a feel of what we can do for you.
